ABKD: Aksyon Barangay Kontra Dengue

In response to the rising cases of dengue in the country, the Department of Health (DOH) launched the ABKD (Aksyon Barangay Kontra Dengue) campaign. This initiative focuses on eliminating mosquito breeding sites in barangays to prevent the spread of dengue.

Here are effective steps to combat the proliferation of dengue-carrying mosquitoes:

  1. Puncture, break, or fill old tires with soil. This prevents water from accumulating and becoming a breeding ground for mosquitoes.
  2. Cover water storage containers. Drums, buckets, and other water storage units should be tightly sealed to prevent mosquitoes from laying eggs. Clean them weekly to remove any larvae.
  3. Change the water in flower vases weekly. Regular replacement prevents stagnant water, which attracts mosquitoes.
  4. Clean and dry dish racks or plate holders. Remove any standing water that can serve as a mosquito breeding site.
  5. Dispose of unnecessary items that can collect water. Old cans, bottles, and bottle caps should be thrown away to eliminate potential mosquito habitats.
  6. Clean gutters. Regularly remove debris to prevent water from pooling and attracting mosquito larvae.

By practicing these simple measures, we can make our barangays dengue-free and protect our communities from this dangerous disease. Let’s work together to eliminate dengue at its source!
